Cooking gas connection to poor

  1. 1. Cooking gas connections to over 7 million poor families in rural areas for just Rs. 635 per unit.
  2. A subsidy of . 1,400 per connection will be provided. Shared by Government and state-run oil companies, which can leverage their funds for corporate social responsibility (CSR)
  3. Public sector oil companies, including Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL), mandatorily spend 2% of their net profit on CSR activities. Their combined annual CSR kitty is estimated between . 800 and . 1,000 crore.
  4. The oil ministry has set a target to provide 10 million (1 crore) new gas connections,mostly in villages,every year till 2015.
